The Daily Sketch- 01.17.11

The DS Goes Noir continues. Today, comes a line from the 1939 novel by Raymond Chandler and the 1946 Howard Hawks film “The Big Sleep”.

“The Big Sleep” was Chandler‘s first novel featuring hard-boiled PI Philip Marlowe. In 2005, Time Magazine included the novel in their list of the 100 Best Novels Published After 1923. It has been adapted twice to film; first in 1946, directed by Howard Hawks and starring Humphery Bogart and Lauren Bacall (the screenplay for this adaption, by the way, was written by none other than Mr. William Faulkner). It was then adapted in 1978 starring Robert Mitchum as Marlowe, Sarah Miles and Mr. James Stewart.

Here you go- the Big Sleep.
