So, my hint of crazy old has some of you stumped. I don’t know why, it wasn’t much of a hint as it was more fact. Today’s Daily Sketch comes from the way-way back folder. It is the oldest piece of my art on this particular computer.
I did this piece for a friend for Christmas back in 1998, maybe 99. It has a funny story, Slow Draw McKee and I were roommates and we had the “studio” in largest room in the place. Anyway, a buddy of ours, we will call him Will (mainly cause that is his name), had a key to the place, but even then we’d know if someone came in because Slow Draw’s canine alarm system would go off when ever anyone walked in the door. Well, on this particular December night around 9-ish at night, the alarm failed.
I was working on this picture when in walks Will, quietly for a change, so I didn’t know he was there and did not have time to slide the picture away. Next thing I hear is Will saying: Wow. That is a really nice drawing. In my mind I say a four letter word starting with “S”, out loud I play like it is nothing, thank him for the complement and hope it sounded truthful.
Apparently it did. Because come Christmas, when Will opened the gift from me, he was quite shocked and surprised. He even told us that when he saw me working on it, he wanted to ask me if it was for somebody and if not would he be able to get it. But he didn’t feel right asking. Heh, that was something. I think only the wedding portrait I did for he and his wife this past Christmas surpasses this pic.
Anyway here is the picture. Conner MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod.
Tomorrow. Hmm… maybe I’ll dig up something wicked old. That should be good for a laugh or two.
